ArenaNet Guild Wars 2 Tournament Rules
- These rules apply to the North American and European Union tournaments as well as the ArenaNet PAX Invitational Tournament (collectively the “Tournament”). There is no entry fee to participate in this Tournament.
- REGISTRATION: Tournament registration begins at http://www.mistleague.com/en-the-guild-wars-2-invitational-registration/ at 12:01pm Pacific Time on 19 July 2013 and closes at 11:59pm Pacific Time on 1 August 2013 or when tournament registration cap is reached, whichever is sooner for the North American Tournament. Tournament registration is capped at 32 Teams (as described below). Tournament registration begins at http://www.mistleague.com/en-the-guild-wars-2-invitational-registration/ at 12:01pm Pacific Time on 19 July 2013 and closes at 11:59pm Pacific Time on 25 July 2013 or when tournament registration cap is reached, whichever is sooner for the European Tournament. Tournament registration is capped at 32 Teams (as described below). The ArenaNet PAX Invitational Tournament will have the teams chosen by ArenaNet from the winners of the North American and European tournaments.
By registering, you understand and acknowledge that ArenaNet, LLC, MMORPG.com (Cyber Creation Inc.), and Mist League (collectively “Tournament Organizer”) is responsible for all aspects of this Tournament, including, without limitation, the interpretation of these rules and/or the Guild Wars 2 (‘Game”) Rules.
- TOURNAMENT PLAY PERIOD: Tournament play will take place at http://www.mistleague.com/ and begins at approximately 11:00am Pacific Time (subject to change) on 3 August 2013 and closes at approximately 11:59pm Pacific Time on 4 August 2013 or whenever a winner is determined, whichever is sooner for the North American Tournament. Tournament play will take place at http://www.mistleague.com/ and begins at approximately 11:00am GMT (subject to change) on 27 July 2013 and closes at approximately 11:59pm GMT on 28 July 2013 or whenever a winner is determined, whichever is sooner for the European Tournament. Tournament play will take place at the Renaissance Hotel in the Madison Ballroom at 515 Madison Street, Seattle, WA 98104 and begins at approximately 5pm Pacific Time on 31 August 2013 and closes at 11:00pm Pacific Time on 31 August 2013 or whenever a winner is determined, whichever is sooner for the ArenaNet PAX Invitational Tournament.
- TEAMS: Each Team registered to participate in the Tournament must consist of five (5) individual players. Each player must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Players must reside in the United States, European Union, Iceland, Montenegro, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Canada, or Mexico to enter the Tournament. Players must be able to travel without restriction to the United States of America. Players will be required to deliver proof of possession of a passport and satisfaction of all other requirements for entering the country. Players from winning teams must send and ArenaNet must receive proof by expedited mail, fax or scanned image when requested. Costs associated with obtaining a passport are the sole responsibility of the individual player. Once Tournament play has commenced, the individual members of a registered Team cannot be changed.
Players may not be an employee or contractor of NCSOFT, ArenaNet, or each of their respective subsidiaries or affiliates or their advertising or promotion agencies, or domiciled with any such person.
- TOURNAMENT PLAY: Teams will compete to eliminate each other and capture strategic objectives on a map. All characters will be on even footing. Players will use their regular characters in Tournament play; however, all characters are adjusted to the maximum level so that all characters will be roughly equal in power.
Players are responsible for understanding the rules of the game and the operation of game controllers. Players must abide by the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement and Rules of Conduct found at https://arena.net/legal/. Unless otherwise specified by Tournament Organizer, all normal rules of game play will apply. Players must conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner. Players who engage in unsportsmanlike, disruptive, annoying, harassing or threatening conduct or violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Tournament, or attempt to obtain winner status using fraudulent means, including, without limitation, cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair practices, in Tournament Organizer’s sole discretion, will have their team disqualified. Players must abide by all rules and regulations of the Tournament and must comply with all requests and directions of Tournament Organizer. Tournament Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any Player from participation at any time and for any reason. Tournament Entities (as defined below) are not responsible for any unanticipated technical failure, hardware or software malfunctions, lost or unavailable network connections, failures or difficulties; or for any other errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical, or electronic; or for the incorrect or inaccurate capture of game scores or other information, or the failure to capture any such information. Winning status is subject to verification, at Tournament Organizer’s discretion, including any suspected errors or anomalies in the game that may have affected the displayed results. All decisions of the Tournament Organizer are final in all matters relating to this Tournament.
- PRIZES: Prizes are set forth here: http://www.guildwars2.com/pvp-invitational-tournament. Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state and local taxes, if any. Winners may not substitute, assign, transfer or redeem prize for cash. Tournament Organizer reserves the right to substitute a prize of comparable or greater value, at its sole discretion. All prize details are at Tournament Organizer’s sole discretion. Prizes will be awarded no later than ninety (90) days after the conclusion of the Tournament. All winners will be required to sign a declaration of eligibility and release.
- LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: Tournament Organizer and its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates and advertising and promotion agencies and all of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees (collectively, “Tournament Entities”) are not responsible for acts or omissions of any computer(s), gaming components or other electronic malfunctions which may limit or prevent a Player’s ability to participate in the Tournament or for computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or other errors or difficulties of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic, computer, network, typographical, printing or otherwise relating to or in connection with the Tournament, including, without limitation, errors or difficulties which may occur in connection with the administration of the Tournament. Tournament Organizer reserves the right to cancel the Tournament for any reason. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Players agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Tournament Entities from and against any claims, actions, demands, damages or liabilities of any kind whatsoever (including without limitation, attorneys’ fees, court costs, settlement and disbursements) due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in the Tournament or in any Tournament-related activity.
- LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR PHOTOSENSITIVITY, EPILEPSY or SEIZURES: Tournament Entities are not responsible for photosensitivity, epilepsy or seizures associated with game play.
- CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION: Tournament is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws. Except where prohibited by law, participating in the Tournament constitutes irrevocable permission for the Tournament Entities and their respective designees to use, publish, exploit, distribute, and display the name, voice, photograph, video, and other likeness and/or any biographical information the Player may provide, Player’s Guild Wars 2 characters, and any statement the Player may make concerning this Tournament or the prize and/ or screen shots or footage of Tournament play (collectively, “Player Information”), in any and all media, now known or hereafter discovered, worldwide in perpetuity, for commercial, promotion, advertising, marketing and other purposes, without notification, review, approval or compensation. This information may be freely and publicly broadcast worldwide by Tournament Organizer. By participating, Players agree to be bound by these Tournament Rules and the decisions of the Tournament Organizer (including interpretations of these Tournament Rules), the judges and the Tournament Administrator, and waive any right to claim ambiguity in this Tournament or these Tournament Rules.
- FORCE MAJEURE: If for any reason this Tournament is not capable of running as planned, then Tournament Organizer reserves the right in Tournament Organizer’s sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Tournament. Tournament Entities shall not be liable to the winner or any other person for failure to supply the prize or any part thereof by reason of any act of God, any action, regulation, order or request by any governmental or quasi-governmental entity, equipment failure, terrorist acts, earthquake, war, fire, flood, explosion, severe weather, hurricane, embargo, labor dispute or strike, labor or material shortage, transportation interruption of any kind, work slow-down, civil disturbance, insurrection, riot or any similar or dissimilar event beyond their reasonable control.
- CHOICE OF LAW: Any and all legal actions or claims arising in connection with this Tournament must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in Seattle, Washington. Except where prohibited, each Player agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Tournament or the prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, and in no event will Player be entitled to obtain attorneys’ fees or other legal costs; and (3) no punitive, incidental, special, consequential or other damages, including without limitation lost profits may be awarded (collectively, “Special Damages”), and (4) Player hereby waives all rights to claim Special Damages and all rights to have such damages multiplied or increased. Washington law, without reference to Washington choice of law rules, governs the Tournament and all aspects related thereto.
- TOURNAMENT WINNERS: The Tournament Winners will be announced following the conclusion of the Tournament, no later than seven days after conclusion of the Tournament, and can be found by contacting the Tournament Organizer.
